Johan Louw is the director and senior consultant of Johan Louw & Associates, specializing in occupational health and safety solutions for training, auditing and consulting.
In 1983 Johan qualified as Mechanical Engineer from the University of Pretoria. His early career began at Atomic Energy Corporation as an engineer-in-training. He then moved to Du Toit, Lindeque and Van Den Berg, a consulting engineering firm, in the capacity of a Mechanical Design Engineer. From there he moved on and joined Armscor as a Systems Engineer. During this period he was sent to the United Kingdom for further studies at the Loughborough University of Technology where he obtained a Master’s Degree in Ergonomics in 1989.
From 1991 to 1997 Johan worked for the former Department of Manpower and functioned in many roles including inspector and deputy-director where he gained valuable experience in the drafting of legislation, guidance notes for industry and directives for the Provincial Offices of the Department of Labour.
Johan has been involved in establishing numerous occupational health & safety ventures, and have been affiliated with significant role players in establishing a Health & Safety standard in RSA.
In 2008 he established his own company Johan Louw & Associates (Pty) Ltd., an independent occupational health and safety service provider offering OHS solutions in its entirety by being associated with organizations that specializes in various occupational health and safety-related aspects.
Johan is also the co-author of the following books in the field of occupational health and safety:
